Ketogenic Diet - Tips And Advice

A Ketogenic (keto) diet is well known for being a low carb diet, where the body produces ketones in the liver to be used as energy. A keto diet is basically a very low-carb diet, which turns the body into a fat-burning machine. It has many proven benefits for weight loss, as millions of people have experienced already. On a ketogenic diet, your entire body switches its fuel supply to run almost entirely on fat. Insulin levels become very low, and fat burning increases dramatically. Thus, it becomes easy to access your fat stores to burn them off.

When on this diet, eat real food—meat, eggs, nuts, yogurt, vegetables and occasionally some fruits— and avoid processed food and any food that may contain preservatives and colourings.

Here are the foods that can be consumed on a ketogenic diet.

Grass-fed and wild animal sources (pastured eggs, gelatin, ghee, butter beef, lamb, goat, venison, seafood)

Healthy fats (lard, tallow, chicken fat, duck fat, goose fat, clarified butter / ghee, butter, coconut oil)

Non-starchy vegetables (Swiss chard, bok choy, spinach, lettuce, chard, chives, endive, radicchio, etc.)

Fruits (avocado)

Beverages (still water, coffee, tea)

Condiments (mayonnaise, mustard, pesto, bone broth, pickles)

A study of keto diet and its effects, with an intent-to-treat prospective design, was published in 1998 by a team from the Johns Hopkins Hospital. The study enrolled 150 children. After three months, 83% of them were still on the diet, and 56% had experienced a good reduction in seizures.
